Gain insight into residents' well-being with DEMOS

Circadian rhythm measurement for care and dementia care

Get started

What is DEMOS?

DEMOS is a circadian rhythm measurement tool used in care and dementia care to give staff an objective view of a resident's sleep and activity patterns.

DEMOS consists of a small sensor that automatically sends data about a resident’s activity to an online portal. The sensor measures body position and movement minute by minute, around the clock. The data is stored and analysed in our online portal, where care staff can see when the resident is lying down, standing/walking, restless or relaxed.

Our circadian rhythm chart can be used as an addition to or replacement for your normal restlessness charts and to evaluate the resident’s general well-being. Additionally, you can use it as a basis for new care initiatives.

Why use DEMOS?

  • ✔️DEMOS gives care staff insight into the resident's well-being and provides a basis for changes in care.
  • ✔️DEMOS “reveals” whether the resident has sleep disturbances, night wandering, restlessness, hyperactivity or inactivity.
  • ✔️DEMOS provides an objective and complete picture of the resident's circadian rhythm during the measurement period.
  • ✔️DEMOS measures and documents the effect of new care initiatives.
  • ✔️DEMOS makes it easy to share the resident's status with colleagues, doctors, psychologists or relatives.
"DEMOS ensures that staff around the residents and the dementia team don't have to invent a lot of new things based on subjective assessments. Data enables us to optimise and professionally qualify the workflows and initiatives we already work with."

Instruction videos and guides

Use the videos below as a practical guide when you work with DEMOS. Each video covers one part of the workflow, from preparation and application of the sensor patch to transfer of data and interpretation of the circadian rhythm chart. Click a title to expand and watch the video.

1. Applying the sensor patch

How to apply the sensor patch correctly and ensure good contact during the entire measurement period.

2. Transfer of data from sensor to database

How to transfer measurement data from the sensor to the online portal using the supplied phone.

3. Printing the circadian rhythm report

How to generate and print the circadian rhythm report as a PDF for use in the resident's record or at meetings.

4. Marking circadian rhythm events

How to mark and annotate important events directly in the circadian rhythm chart.

5. The dialogue tool: About the circadian rhythm

How to use the dialogue tool to discuss the resident's circadian rhythm with colleagues or relatives.

6. Introduction to DEMOS circadian rhythm analysis

Overview of how DEMOS analyses and presents circadian rhythm data in the portal.

Frequently asked questions

Here you can find answers to common practical and technical questions about DEMOS. Click a question to expand the answer.

How do I get started?
Contact us by phone or email to order DEMOS. You will receive sensors, patches and a phone for data transfer, as well as instructions for set-up. We support you through the entire process and help with both training and implementation.
Can everyone use DEMOS?
The DEMOS patch is designed to be easy to apply and is made of skin-friendly material. Tests show that there are very few or no discomforts associated with wearing it on the back, also for residents with sensitive skin.
Does it require technical knowledge?
No. DEMOS does not require installation or access to existing IT systems. Training in the use of the equipment and the online portal is included in the subscription.
How do you protect personal data?
No personal data is registered directly in the online portal. The collected data is encrypted and stored in the sensor until it is securely transferred to the portal. Data is only linked to the sensor number and the measurement dates. Only selected staff at the care centre know which data belongs to which resident.

Kerteminde project

The project showed that circadian rhythm measurement with DEMOS is an effective tool for care staff to gain new insight into residents’ well-being and to adapt care and action plans for residents assessed to have poor well-being.

Key results:

  • Staff gain new insight into residents’ well-being through circadian rhythm measurements.
  • Staff can adjust care based on circadian rhythm data.
  • Residents’ level of well-being is maintained for 6–9 months.
  • Staff’s individual and shared professional knowledge base and focus on each resident with dementia is strengthened.

The project ran as a quality improvement initiative in Kerteminde Municipality’s dementia care from September 2020 to September 2021, in collaboration with Kerteminde Municipality, Syddansk Sundhedsinnovation (SDSI), University of Southern Denmark (SDU), SENS Innovation ApS and BRANE ApS.
